The winter of 2025–2026 was the second warmest on record for Greece (at least since 1960). The warmest winter remains 2023–2024.
The winter of 2025–2026 (December 2025, January and February 2026) in Greece was characterized by very mild temperatures and long periods with positive deviations from climate averages.
At the same time, only a few short cold spells were recorded, during which temperatures fell below the seasonal average for a few days, mainly from early to mid-January 2026.

The winter of 2025–2026 ranks as the second warmest since at least 1960. Overall, 78 days (86%) of the winter recorded temperatures above the average of the 1991–2020 reference period.
Notably, four of the warmest winters in Greece have occurred in the past six years. The average winter temperature in the country has increased by 1.8°C between 1960 and 2026.
At the same time, winter 2025–2026 was also one of the wettest winters on record in Greece, while snow cover remained at very low levels compared with climate averages.
