Greeks living abroad will be able to vote by mail in upcoming national elections after Parliament approved key provisions of a government bill with the required two-thirds majority.
The relevant articles secured between 201 and 207 votes from lawmakers of ruling New Democracy, main opposition PASOK and more than a dozen independents, clearing the constitutional threshold needed for the reform to take effect.
However, a separate provision establishing a three-seat diaspora constituency was passed by a simple majority of 162 votes and therefore will not apply in the 2027 general elections, as it failed to meet the higher majority requirement.
