Golden Dawn: 42 defendants found guilty again by the Court of Appeal, as in the first trial

Today, the Five-Member Court of Appeal for Felonies of Athens again found the 42 defendants guilty in the Golden Dawn case, as in the original trial. However, none of them—except for Ilias Kasidiaris and Ioannis Lagos—were present in the courtroom to hear the final verdict of the appellate judges.

The Court of Appeal's decision regarding Golden Dawn as a criminal organization was delivered after a lengthy evidentiary procedure that began in June 2022.

The appellate judges adopted the proposal made last December by the prosecutor of the bench, Kyriaki Stefanatou.

It should be noted that the only individuals currently imprisoned in relation to Golden Dawn are the perpetrator of the murder of musician Pavlos Fyssas, Giorgos Roupakias, along with Giannis Lagos and Ilias Kasidiaris.

Specifically, those found guilty today of directing a criminal organization are: Nikos Michaloliakos, Ilias Kasidiaris, Ioannis Lagos, Christos Pappas, Ilias Panagiotaros, Giorgos Germenis, and Artemis Matthaiopoulos.

The remaining 11 former Golden Dawn MPs were found guilty of membership in a criminal organization: Antonios Gregos, Eleni Zaroulia, Polyvios Zisimopoulos, Panagiotis Iliopoulos, Nikos Kouzilos, Dimitris Koukoutsis, Nikos Michos, Konstantinos Barbarousis, Stathis Boukouras, Chrysovalantis Alexopoulos, and Michalis Arvanitis.

Among the other defendants convicted of membership in a criminal organization are the murderer of Pavlos Fyssas, Giorgos Roupakias, the Perama local leader Anastasios Pantazis, and the Nikaia local leader Giorgos Patelis.

Regarding the murder of Pavlos Fyssas, Giorgos Roupakias was again found guilty, as in the first trial, of intentional homicide against the musician. The court also found him guilty of membership in the criminal organization Golden Dawn. However, the offenses of illegal weapons possession, carrying, and use—of which he had been convicted at first instance—have now become time-barred.

For the accomplices in Fyssas' murder, the 15 defendants were found guilty: Ioannis Aggos, Marios Anadiotis, Giorgos Dimou, Ioannis Kazatzoglou, Elpidoforos Kalarrýtikos, Ioannis Komianos, Konstantinos Korkovilis, Anastasios Michalaros, Giorgos Patelis, Giorgos Skalkos, Giorgos Stambelos, Leontas Tsalikis, and Nikolaos Tsorvas.

For the attack against Egyptian fishermen in Keratsini, the following were found guilty of attempted murder: Dimitris Agriogiannis, Markos Evgenikos, Thomas Marias, Anastasios Pantazis, and Konstantinos Papadopoulos. The court's decision on sentencing is now pending.
